Yahoo Messenger 8

I have Vista Beta 2, and have just downloaded the new Yahoo messenger 8. Everything is running great, even my printer and scanner installed fine, however when I start the messenger my computer quite often freezes to the point that the 3 fingers salute doesn't work.

I have a Gig of dual channel memory and a Pentium 4 - 2.6Gig processer, and have the messenger on classic skin, however it still freezes.

Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Oktober

I don't use Yahoo Messenger, but I have read this:

Quote:
just right-click on YM shortcut...
choose properties > compatibility
I'm not exactly sure what that will do for you, but it's the best answer I've got. Good luck.

Thank you very much. I changed the compatibility mode for Yahoo Messenger 8 to run in an XP SP2 environment and it's working great now.

Fabulous! Another problem solved. I wonder how many other software problems might be solved using this same method? Hmmm....

I've attached a screenshot of the compatibility mode screen. This may be something to try every time you have a software problem. Worth a shot anyway.

So, to recap:

If one of your software programs doesn't work properly in Window Vista, try the following:

1. Right-click on the program's .exe file and choose Properties
2. Click on the Compatibility tab.
3. Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" Windows XP

(You'll notice it also has a box that can be checked to run the program in Administrator mode. That may also solve a problem or two).

Dazzin, I just came back here to repost the instructions you have just given. I've been using Yahoo Messenger 8 all night and have not had any problems whatsoever.

However, because it is a messenger I did not set it for any Admin rights.

Thank you very much,
Oktober

Thanks for letting us know, Oktober. Those things that are successful will help others who face the same situations.
