Hi Friends: I am wondering if your Vista Installation is "complete" in the sense that, given your wants and needs, you are able to do everything you want or need to do. My 5728 installation now is complete since, as explained in another thread, I have accomplished my last task--gaining the ability to sync my Windows 5.0 Pharos hand-held device with Outlook.

| OK. I have voted yes. I probably have not explored every eventuality but all that I have been doing with XP over the past years, I can do just as easily with 5728. No bsod's or any other mishaps. But, as I have said in other posts, I have disabled quite a lot of the security functions, so maybe I am cheating myself? |

So far the only issue I have, is that WMP sucks. I had to do a complete re-install over top of RC1 Build 5728 to get rid of URGE, that I should have done on the first install. However the primary issue, is that it will not play AVI Video files, and the AVI Codecs installed make it even worse. If I could get Nero Showtime installed , WMP would never be used. I ignore it on XP, and have from day one. |

| Interesting, I haven't tested WMP thoroughly since I seldomly use it. But, as far as I know, my WMP works consistently with AVIs. I know it works in the one I am going to link you to. See if you can download the AVI version of the movie and try it: http://homepage.mac.com/donv1/iMovieTheater4.html

| For most everything that I could do with XP I have found other programs or ways, however I have an online class starting November 2, and no text boxes are showing up so there is nowhere to post my homework. Vista build RC1 5600 This is the only place I have seen missing textboxes. Chabalym |

| I voted a big YES. I had a few issues, but was able to fix them without reinstalling 5728. The AVG Center beta has worked fine after I replaced it with the latest version. Other than that, things r working great on this side. |

| Seems VLC media Player, works just dandy, so WMP can collect dust bunnies. I noticed there was also a conflict with Quick Time Player, but even taking care of that didn't provide much improvement to WMP. Some AVI movies had video, but not sound or the reverse. I'll play with it when I'm really bored. Online stuff works fine, including Znod's reference link. I do need to upgrade this 9250 128 meg video card though, that may resolve some issues. |

| VLC is useful... its less than 10 mb and has almost ALL codecs within it... it will play any quicktime movies you have including HD. Any missing sound in WMP is probably due to the AC3 codec which VLC also comes with If you want to use WMP then here is a link to the AC3 and DivX codecs: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/a...b.exe?download http://download.divx.com/divx/DivXInstaller.exe crabby |
