Thumbs down Vista's defrag is pathetic

One of the first things i noticed when i bought my brand new hp home is that microsoft have skimped on many things that xp had. One being the defragmenting tool. As if xp's wasnt basic enough they go and take off all visual aspects of it. Now you cant even see how much is fraged and what percent its upto. Thats bad plus its meant to be more easier to use omg im a lover of xp and vista is a navigation nightmare im still getting used to it after many months. Another thing the xp defrag is made by diskeeper an amazing piece of software. Diskeeper is all auto its great

The visual aspects are a loss to be sure, but if you search the web or even this forum you will find that the actua algorythm used is much better than before.

Defragment your hard drive from the Command Prompt | Windows Vista for Beginners This is what I used before I purchased Diskeeper 2008 Pro and from the command prompt worked good as far as i could tell.

Diskeeper is still the defrag engine being used by Vista.
Microsoft decided, correctly in my opinion, that defragging was a background operation. It runs on a schedule, or can be used manually, according to how you wish to customise it. After SP1, you also have the option of choosing which partition you want to defrag. The first time it is used, it can take a long time. It is shadow copying whilst it defrags, for you own safety. After that, it runs on you chosen schedule unobtrusively. I have no wishh to see those little squares jumping around, it does nothing for me. The new policy is, I feel, well chosen.
