Have you tried the space key or pause/break key. works for me.

I should have said the meny choice is sleep as defult.

To restart Vista you need to open the menu NEXT to the power button in the start menu and select it.

I'm not at my PC right now, but I know there's an option to change what happens when pressing the power button.

Are you referring to start --> to the right of search are 3 buttons.
1. is shutdown 2. is lock or unlock 3. give you several options.
a. switch Users
b. log off
c. lock
d. restart
e. sleep
f. shutdown.

It goes right to sleep... How do I get it to restart without changing it?

you do not have to change anything use option d. called RESTART.

Or explain what you actually want...
restart or awake or what...
reference your pic it shows the 6 options.. what else do you really need or

I restart all the time. When it asks me what I want to do I want it to come up with restart not sleep. In XP it always had restart as default.

what version of Vista are you using?
Is this a Laptop or Desktop?
what is the brand of your system?
what do you do that it asks you what to do?
Are you asking about how to change power options?

I'm sorry but for some reason I am not understanding exactly what you want to do or change.
