Vista Theme changing

Help! What program do I need to be able to change to a d/loaded theme for vista which does not have a "*.theme" file included?

Smile Themes

Roy,
In my Vista for Dummies book in the themes section they list the following suggestions.

1. Right click your desktop, choose Personalize, and choose Theme.
Then browse to grab a Theme you have saved in a specific folder. Vista normally saves Themes in the Program Files folder.
or
2. Create your own by changeing Vista's background, colors, screensaver, icons, mouse pointer, then save your theme by clicking Save As and naming your theme.

Hope this helps.

Skelly, that's a good tip. Is there any mention about changing themes and and Aero? Will it affect Aero performance?

Red face Happy Valentines Day...my new vista computer is here

Wow, I love it. I have been working on getting it all hooked up, old files transferred, and tweaked and decorated just the way I want it...so I have been quiet for a few days. The Start Menu is going to take some getting used to for me. Even though I know that I can change it to look more like the old one, I want to see if I can become familiar with the new way.

In answer to your post, Felix, I have tried several different wallpapers and themes and the Aero is fine. If someone can tell me how to post a screenshot of my new computer, I will do so. I see others have done it on other threads, but do not know how to do it. I have managed to get it over to Paint, but don't know what to do with it.
Thanks ,
Skelly

First congratulations on your new mean machine. I know you will enjoy it to the fullest. In regards to postingan images, I have not done this at all, but I think you can just drag the file to be post into the blank space. Thanks for your response to my question.

The taskbar stays the same no matter what you change
with the colors, etc; it stays black, at least in home
basic. The menu button stays the same, too.

I tried to get the old "Plus!" themes to work in Vista,
but they just change the background and cursors but
not the taskbar.

How do I change the taskbar for a full new theme?

The best solution to changing your theme will be Windowblinds. Windowblinds 5.5 was just released and it adds support for Windows Vista.

Jerry,
I have not found a way to change the color of the taskbar or start menu. The only suggestion that I might make is to either choose the option to "Hide the taskbar" or the option to keep the taskbar in the background when you have a window maximized. Sounds like the Window Blinds might be another option, but I have not checked it out yet.
