Added Ram Vista won't Boot

I had only 512 MB of ram and decided to add another 512. After checking the CMOS to see the Computer recognize the additional ram I booted up Vista which only got as far as the boot screen with the green bars loading and then rebooted. It does boot up in safe mode and last known good configuration showing 1 GB of ram. I also have Windows 2000 as a dual boot and it works just fine recognizing the 1 GB of ram. The strange thing is if I remove the second 512 chip Vista boots up just fine.

Anyone have any thoughts how I can correct this?

Clarify please,
You say that when you go to Last Known Good Config (In Vista) you can see the 1 gig of Ram? Correct?
If so are you letting the system boot after you select LKGC?
Does it boot all the way then?

Thanks
Eddie

Also note are the Ram chips same-same?

Hi Eddie
It will only boot by using F8 and safe mode or Last Known Good Config and yes it does recognize the 1 gig of RAM. If I let it good on its own It just keeps rebooting. Both of the sticks are exactly the same DDR 3200 (400). It boots into Windows 2000 without any problems and works just fine and recognizes the 1 gig of RAM. I think it must be something in the system configuration by adding a RAM It stops them from booting up.

Dma

Had u try turning DMA off? U can go to Device Manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and for every icon that has the word Channel, right click it, select Properties, Advanced Settings. Clear the Enable DMA checkbox, and OK it.

Hello Guy's. I'm back!!!

Hudson... this problem is JUST LIKE the issue I have with over-clocking I believe. The ****ter is I cannot sort it I am under the impression that at the install stage Vista seems to hardlock to your config for both RAM and CPU. The easy way 'ofcourse' is to just re-install vista for you, but for me I like changing my OC settings regularly

Sorry that I know of no other way

Try Memory Repair!

Try the Vista repair option, and as Crabby mentioned, if that fails, do a re-install of what ever Build your running, straight over top. I've done it twice, and you won't lose anything except for special settings you may have made to your present install.

Repair doesnt work as it doesnt alter the kernel. Would have been a good idea otherwise!
