AMD to Intel

Going to go from the M2NSLI Deluxe to a Intel P5k with Vista Ultimate what are my chances on getting away with the swap with out a clean install and my next question is i have a complete back-up image but i have never did a complete backup before do i change the motherboard and then install vista ultimate and then do the image backup from the other install to get all my setting and programs back or is this just a wast of time.

I am betting the backup won't work at all given that it apparently was made with Vista backup. If made with Acronis, then I'd say you'd have a fighting chance. You could always get Acronis for a safety valve. But, regardless, I'd plan for trying all alternatives. First, I'd try to get the backup working on what apparently is a new (or different) drive. I'd try it first without installing Vista freshly. Here, you might have to use Vista Boot Pro to get the drive to boot. If this approach doesn't work, then I'd try installing Vista first. You can always try some more after the new mobo is in.

Last swap i did before I shut down I reinstaller any drivers that were not going to be the same on the other board like HD drivers, sound, nic, and the such and it went off very good all I had to do was set the boot sequence correctly in the bios. I would also try a repair install also but a clean install is probably the best way to go just change the board and cpu of coarse back up all info from c drive boot with the least amount of hardware 1 drive 1 stick of ram and 1 dvd rom and go from there with a clean install i also will be doing the installs of software this way install a program and then defrag then do another and defrag and on and on some of said this works better for getting the drive set up for faster seek times. I can't wait to get the E8400 and the new board never liked AMD which is alright but just not as crisp or quick as my E6750.
