Build 5536 (Pre RC1)

Downloaded and installed. Installed much faster than older builds. Installation took 10Mins!!! used to take 40mins. Windows update... dont know if it did what it just did right now in older builds. Opend it up to see if there was any updates, and 1 showed up, ok, ill download and install it when im done poasting here, but its already downloaded it and installed it without me having to tell it to! Nice! Boot up time is faster as well, now 35 seconds, was 1min 23sec. My wireless card installed with the drivers off the drvier cd that come with it and i didnt have to use the drivers that crabby(??) found for me. woot! Memory usage is better as well, not by much but better, used to hang about 50% usage, now its at 40%. Things also open faster to!

If you got this but not yet installed it... do it! and do it now! lol

Nice work from MS (for once!)

The installation appears to be hit and miss so far. Some people (Sean) find that it installs quicker... others find that it hangs between menus (a bug that was apparent in 5372 and 5456) Bit odd, but then 5536 isn't RC1

It didn't hang for me, but it wasn't overly fast either.

I have build 5536 on my computer but its not an official Microsoft release, when i hered the news yesterday that Microsoft were offering an official download i couldn't resist so i downloaded it, but the question is, is it worth putting the Microsoft release on my computer? i hear roomers that the one they realised is 5536.1 so I'm wondering will it be any different than the 5536 i have got on my PC now. Anyone have and ideas what i should do???

They are the same... but if you have got it I suppose you could installl it and see...do you have more than 1 partition to experiment with? I am currently running 5536, 5552 and 5457-x64... along with XP home, XP MCE, gentoo linux and ubuntu linux.... More than 1 os is FUN!!!

Hi Anthony. I think the build numbers would tell you if they are the same.
