| With out downloading the manual and reading on how to set the Serial ATA/IDE RAID Bios correctly. You do not need any special Drivers for SATA. You need the BIOS set correctly. Read the manual included on how to set. I set mine for NON-RAID. and it boots and installed correctly. Quote:
You never mentioned what HDD's you have? You did not mention which OS your trying to install Vista x64 from?

| Sorry. The SATA HDD's are Caviar SE 1x WD1200JD and 2x WD800JD. The dvd RW is a Sony DW-Q28A. The DVD drive is a Sony DDU1622 . How do you tell if they read/write 64 bit. I have XP/SP2 installed on the 120GB HDD and Vista Ultimate 32 bit on one 80GB HDD. The other 80GB HDD is blank. I was trying to tri boot the 64 bit Vista Ultimate with a clean install. I am formatting the HDD in Vista disk managment right now. I am a self taught old man on computers so please be patient with me. I've never fried anything yet.

OK you say SATA, so make sure they are set for 150MB/s and not 300MB/s. Not sure on your mobo. but I have to select which HD to be #1 for Boot. per say. HDD1=120GB and HDD2=80GB, then to clean install, I would have to have HDD2 set for 1st BOOT.. if HHD 1 was 1st then the install would fail due to the setting... SATA do not function like IDEs. You might try that, also make sure you have the latest Firmware for you DVD players. many times that is all that is needed... you can also check the HCL site for info. http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Default.aspx?m=v Sony DRU 1622 is rated unknown and unknown. Sony NEC Optiarc Inc. DW-Q28A is yes and yes Sony DVD DW-Q28A is rated unknown and unknown Sony DVD RW DW-Q28A is rated unknown and unknown so your marginal that your DVD players work...apparently OK on x86(32B) but No Good on X64(64Bit) I would try to upgrade to the latest Firmware.. and try again. http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIR...28A-KYR6.shtml http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru120a_dwn.htm you might also check this site: http://www.xpvistasite.com/cd_dvd/sony/

| The KYR6 firmware doesn't recognize my DW-Q28A DVD-RW. I was able to upgrade to KYS4 though. I set the 80-00LSAO hdd to boot first and tried to load vista 64 with the same results. error 0x80070017 ![]() ![]() ![]()

| My Difference Is 1. FIRST BOOT = FLOPPY 2. SECOND BOOT = CD ROM 3. THIRD BOOT IS = HARDDRIVE.
