| I am the king of the upgraders, but, sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. My bet, though, is that you will end up with a mess if you try it.

| DONT do this... I did it with xp.. from XP home 32 to xp pro 64 and it was a right cock up!! errors and bsods left right and center I dont know if it will work with vista or not but i would not like to try it |

| As your title suggests, the installation would be very 'dirty' and probably wouldnt work. The kernels are (obviously) completely incompatible so it would have to start from scratch anyway. Clean install! crabby |

| Just as you should never upgrade install from XP x64 to Vista x86, you should also never do the opposite (XP x86 to Vista x64). There are many driver and program issues that would stand in the way. For the most part, if you are willing to possibly be searching for x64 drivers for a day or two, x64 is only a marginal pain if you do a complete clean install. You may not even run into much of anything depending on your hardware. The sticking point for me seems to be printing and wireless connectivity. As of late, I have conquered all of my x64 issues on XP x64 so I am confident that I could switch over easily. I just haven't yet.. Good luck. Sometimes what would seem easier is in reality the hard way to go...... |
