| Thanks crabby. 5384 worked as I expected--old programs were left installed, and, then, they either worked or didn't.

| Hokay crabby and all: Here is the latest. I now have everything under control and am enjoying New Vista very much. Is seems very solid, but I have not had much time to experiment. Working programs now include: MS Office 2003, Analyze It for Excel, Photoshop/Imageready CS2, Quicken. Avast, iTunes. Synaptics Touchpad QuickTime Pro; and FireFox with Google Toolbar. Yeeehaaa, and , and to me. Many thanks to the crabby one.New Vista seems a bit challenged when it comes to copying files sometimes, but that's about all I have notice so far. I did an upgrade--so I ended up with the Windows-Old folder--which was only a minor advantage since I was not as well organinzed as I might have been. Eventually, say, next version, I'll do a clean install after getting a little better prepared. I really expected new Vista to work the same way as old Vista--leave all existing programs installed when upgrading. I had expected to save much tiime this way, as I did with old Vista, but no dice.

| So, to make sure I'm clear, you reinstalled the list of programs above, right?

| Right, I have a few to go, but the remainder also worked on Old Vista.

| I forgot to mention that installation was very, very quick; that ReadyBoost is working with my Apacer 4 GB--with no noticeable speed increase; that network printing is workiing; and that all our computers are readily accessible via our network--except that I am having a password issue with my iBook--which has never happened before. I'll be adding a few programs tomorrow and will update my list of excellently working programs.

| The install is now BLOODY fast! Less than 20 mins start to finish for me Convergance is now Microsoft's major issue. These build trees are coming together to for RC1 and I hope its up to spec! The fact that it will have DX10 sounds sweet (that alone could change ALOT)! crabby |

| A big thing I have noticed is that I have no more slow down in program openings immediately after a restart. It used to take 5 minutes for old Vista to "warm up." I never could figure out what the problem was. Yes, new Vista is very smooth with everything working more like a finished program.

| Hre are today's installation accomplishments: Roxio MyDVD; Roxio MyDVD LE (running in XP/SP2 compatibility mode); G-Tech Pass; and Adaware SE Personal. I also installed MusicMatch Jukebox--which worked under Old Vista--but is not currently working. For some reason the program is not connecting to the internet. I tried making IE the default browser, but this action did not help. Any thoughts on getting MM to work? I'd like to get it to work since I have MM's "On Demand" service. Edit: Problem Solved. Now I don't need a password. First time ever. Computers are very strange. And, I have one slightly significant problem. For some reason, I can't get to my networked iBook by entering my user name and passwork as usual. I tried an older Dell laptop today, and it gets me to the iBook per usual--by simply clicking it in the network and entering my user name and password when prompted. Any thoughts on what may be wrong here. I had no problems under Old Vista. Seldomly am I stumped on a home-networking problem.

| Dazzlin, I got my copy of Vista Beta 2 right from Microsoft, I heard that since I inrolled in the testers program, I would recieve the RC1. Do you know for sure if this is true or not? I have had Vista up and running for a while, i like all the new features, and hope the RC1 will have the patches for some programs i have. thanks much TurboStorm |
