Right guys... I have run across a rather useful bit of information!! Basically... your beta keys... they work with all builds!!! This means if you grab a different build from somwhere (torrents) then you can install it as a genuine product! Honestly... this is fantastic as they arent updating through windows update like they could! The build I installed yesterday took half the time to install... boots 4 seconds faster... shuts down in under 5 seconds... has new sounds... has better tweaked security... runs aero much better with less jerks during heavy CPU usage... gadgets run faster... explorer runs faster and loads quicker... internet explorer runs faster, loads quicker and has tweaked security... THE LIST GOES ON!!!! GRAB A NEW BUILD NOW!!!! crabby |

| Hi All: The second would be me. I like New Vista a great deal, although I have not had much time to fool with it. All went well installing, etc. I did an upgrade expecting the programs that worked well on Old Vista to be installed and to work well on New Vista. But, it looks like I've got my work cut out for me in figuring out what works and in what mode. My most immediate concerns are MS Office 2003, FireFox (althought I can use IE), and Photoshop/Imageready (latest versions). Does anyone have insights about what mode to try running these programs in? Are they truely incompatible with New Vista because they ended up in the Windows-Old folder? As indicated, I haven't yet had time to deal with this issue. Perhaps the solution will be easy. But, again, I do like New Vista--just haven't had time to fool with it much. Thanks for all the help crabby. ![]()

| The programs you are descibing all have MANY registry keys required for full integration with the windows operating system. When you upgrade the o/s the registry gets re-written,and any files you wanted to keep get moved to the windows-old folder just incase you want to keep any. So to cut a long story short, for those programs to work you must reinstall them crabby PS: Build 5487 is about to hit the mainstream!!! This is the rumoured RC1 revision!!! Will tell you what its like once I've got it Last edited by crabby : 08-10-2006 at 02:35 PM. |
