| Hi, Just wondering how many of you are running Vista x64? I was installing x64 originally on my remote PC but something happened with the ISO (x64) and I couldn't install it. At the time I only had a Vista Beta 2 (x86) that was different from the regular Beta 2. I would only work on one PC (Windows Feedback Panel). To make a long story short, I could only install x86 at the time (Now I have both versions) but I have since wondered how the x64 version has been working out for some of you. I have one PC with XP x64 installed and have been plagued with driver issues up until recently.. Anyway, just wondering about your experiences with Vista x64... | Lol... well thats great... I'm scared now!!! WHAT IF IT ALL GOES WRONG!!! Burning... installing... If you dont here back from me, then my PC has fried :| EDIT: Phew... made it... slight improvements in speed... horrid drivers... and the older build make it not worthwhile. I would suggest not even talking about the x64 version until RC1 crabby Last edited by crabby : 08-21-2006 at 11:17 PM. |

Hey all, i was wondering what the actual difference is between the two. Does a person need to have a 64 bit processor to run x64? Just a thought, because I do not have a 64 bit processor. TurboStorm |

| I had build 5600 x64 installed on my desktop and didn't notice any difference whatsoever. My understanding is that a 64bit PC is designed more for high definition graphics and games. I don't have any of that. As for the drivers, I didn't have any issues, except for my printer; I tried using an x86 driver and the printer did not work. The performance rating was the same as under x86 and, basically, everything else ran the same as it does now with Build 5728 x86. I assume that you can run the x64 on and x86 architecture; more than likely it will run just like an x86, but I don’t know for sure. I know it works the other way around, x86 on x64, because that’s what I’m running at this moment. It would be nice to know though. |

| x64 requires and 64bit processor, so sorry turbostorm can't play with x64. It allows decoding of 64bit instead of the normal 32bit and so should be faster (not twice as fast as some people say!). x64 games do look ALOT better. If the programs are native x64 then there is a performance increase. Obviously, loading of a desktop app isn't going to see too much of a difference though. If you do any video encoding or other CPU intensive stuff then you will see a performance increase (can be up to 20%). Otherwise, there isnt much difference between x86 and x64. The only way to go, if your are going to test the x64 water, is linux because it will show major performance increases in comparison to windows (each program is compiled to the system crabby |
