I use Thunderbird as my default email. When I installed Windows Mail, it made itself the default and I can't seem to get it undone. "Set Your Default Programs" does not list Thunderbird as a choice. "Set Program Access" - "Custom" - lists Thunderbird, I can choose it and it opens the program, and then hangs. If I close Thunderbird, it stops the whole process and I am back to Windows Mail as the default. Ideas? |

| I am on a XP machine here at work so going from memory here. Go to Control Panel and Programs. See if you see something like "add or uninstall features" and see if Windows Mail shows up in the list. Soon WM will be replaced by Windows Live Mail Desktop from what I read. It had a pretty short life, lol.

| The easiest way to do it is > Go to Start > Help and Support > Type Set default programs > Click on "Change the default e-mail program". This will provide you with a little tutorial plus the link that will take you to the setup window. |

In fact, I have done that. It allows me to choose Thunderbird, then it opens the program (Thunderbird) and then it hangs. If I do nothing, and wait, -- it remains hung up. If I close Thunderbird, it closes the little window that says it is changing the default email program and nothing happens. The program is still set to Windows Mail. |

| If Felix suggestion does not work... try running Thunderbird install by "right click" run as Admin... Quote:
Open the account, and remove all required info... then close. once the account is closed Windows Mail will no longer be your DEFAULT. (you might have to reboot)
