Just a quick question.

Hi,

I'm going to buy Windows Vista when it's released.

The only query I have is, will I be able to install Vista on all computers in my network at home, as I have 4 computers running on. Or will I have to buy a different copy for each computer?

I also have a friend who's interested, would we both have to buy a copy, or would we be able to split the copy and only buy one between us?

I've scanned through the forums and such, looked around the official Windows Vista webpages, but I couldn't find an answer to this question.

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

Faison.

You and your friend will need a copy for each machine.

Ok, that's fine.

But what about the 4 computers on my network?

Would I have to buy 4 different copies?

IMO, the answer is the same. One might get around this limitation by joining TechNet, but I am not positive. Before deciding to join TechNet you need to be sure that you understand it rules. See post #56 on this thread, http://www.vistababble.com/forums/in....html#post5747, for my interpretation of how TechNet works.

I agree with previous replies; You'll have to buy one copy for each PC. Having said that, I believe that you can also go with the volume licensing, which will allow you to get the copies cheaper than when buying retail. However, other than Vista Business and Enterprise, I don't know if you can buy a volume license for Home Premium.

I currently have three PCs and one which I'm building. I want to get Ultimate for the one I'm building; I'm getting a free copy of the Business edition, which I'm going to install on my laptop; and want to get two copies of Home Premium for my daughter's PCs. I'm trying to find a way to buy Ultimate and two copies of Home Premium for less than retail.

I know I must buy each copy, but would anyone know if there's a way, legally, that I can save some money when purchasing these three copies?

Yes, if you or your daughters are either teachers or students. Educational discounts are widely available at least on the web. Search, for example, for educational software and sift out the results that don't sell operating systems. It might be time to enroll in those courses each of you has been wanting to take. But, really, depending on the fees.

Good info, thanks. I know you had mentioned this before but my brain didn't register it. Both of my daughters are attending college and I'll start next year. (Does UTSA and Vista College sound familiar?)
