PC-CLEANER, [is] an amazing registry cleaner [, IMO]. Powerful, yet simple this registry cleaner is great for your Windows registry. PC-CLEANER will scan and repair errors in your registry. It offers great features like backup, restore, schedule and more that will help you to fix registry problems on Microsoft Windows 2000 XP Vista. | Crabby: As long as there is a Registry Cleaner thread started, I would like to know the impact of using these utilities. I purchased RegistryFix for my XP versions and did an Update to their release which supports Vista. I ran the program with a whopping 303 problems found, but I am reluctant to let it fix them. Any suggestions would be helpful. |

Well - I decided to give it a whirl. First issue I ran into is that for each of the 303 registry corrections I encountered the UAC prompt. Needless to say I didn't continue. Aborting the cleanup was somewhat difficult since selecting cancel immediately resulted in another UAC prompt. I was able to abort by placing the UAC prompt cancel button over the abort button of my application and double clicking my mouse. What a pain!! After some addition research in the Forums I discovered a suggestion to select the xxx.exe file --> right click --> select properties --> select the compatibility tab --> and check "Run this program as an administrator" <-- Apply. After performing this, I was prompted by the UAC when I started the program, but not as it was running - AGAIN I let the registry cleaner clean all 303 items (99% of which were entries to files which were no longer where the registry thought they were). My Vista didn't crash, but I did notice a longer startup time when I brought up Internet Explorer Browser the first time after I cleaned the registry. However after closing it and bringing it back up it was much quicker than before I cleaned the registry. If I encounter any problems as a result of the cleaning, I'll post them here. |

| I am betting that you don't notice anything. But, if you have problems, then there is an easy fix--do a repair install. However, once you do so you will have many new registry "errors." I can make this claim because I used to always follow a reigstry-fix session with an install repair to make sure nothing essential got "fixed." I wouldn't do so now unless something obviously was broken by the "fix."

Uptime is now 8hrs 49min since I ran my registry fix and rebooted - and yes there are no failures. The only thing I did notice was that Internet Explorer and Windows Mail took NOTICEABLY longer to come up the first time. However after that they came up quickly. I hesitate to mention this, but what the heck - In one of my other threads I was concerned with memory useage being high. Well after the reboot my quiescent memory has dropped to 750Mbytes. And I have added three additional Gadgets to my Sidebar. |

| I was wondering if any of those 303 items had anything to do with the entrie like C:\Packages\does not exsist or C:\$Windows; does not exsist I have at least 100 of these and some ones for MicrosoftMoney which I have not fixed yet only been fixing the ones that I know are defently not in the system i am using RegSupreme by Macecraft. I just did a low level scan with 253 items and I have deleted some as time goes by. Oh ya I have some by the name of C; Software distrubution D also |
