DID YOU USE THAT DVD TO INSTALL on the friends system that is WORKING.???????????????
If your DISK is BAD, then borrow the other DISK and install... using your KEY.
or swap your HDD in the other computer and Install... use which ever DISK will work. THE QUESTION IS NOT PIRATED OR LEGAL DISK...Make a copy of the IF YOU HAVE GOOD DISK and install.

My friend just got windows vista yesterday, and failed to install. He has exact same system as me p4 1.6 oced, x1600 512 , 768MB, WE BUILT t exCT Same time, same config. ok heres a recap of what he did to ABD CLEAN INSTALL VISTA PREM, UPGRADE.

ALL HE COULD MAKE OUT FROM THE MESSAGE WAS,: hardware, vendor, hard, driver, itechnical information (000000x0000) x (00000x00) (something like that) then it restarted, and kept doing same message restarting all night. help.

This problem(s) has been fixed

wither you have or your friend has is beside the point... IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE DVD - make a copy of the DVD that is GOOD and burn it at the slowest rate you can... recommend burning on a DVD-rw rated at 2.4x... then install...
DO NOT USE THE DVD TO FORMAT YOUR HDD.... download and copy to what ever media you have to use a copy of Windows ME Boot disk.
format the HDD using FAT32... then change to NTFS..

Last but not least SEND the computer to ME... I'll install VISTA for you using NO KEY.. you can then authenticate with your KEY.

Ill come to your house, and 1 note, this is his DVD, that im using the one he buy, and I LIED, I didn't get vista it was me, my DVD, ooh shame on me, oh this is my first shapin time to lie, like this, i guess everyone hated me and the problem(s) has not been fixed, i keep getting message, should i exhange my copy of vista? or should I do the HDD thing?

EH I lied 2nd last post it is actually my friends PC,tryin to do vista, but i lied because I don't have my disc to do it on my PC, I lost it lol

2 things:

1) What have you actually tried from the things we have suggested.
2) Could you please try and post more coherently so we can understand what is actually going on

You must understand that every single piece of hardware is different to every other one due to variances in manufature, so a piece of your friends hardware might be broken/damaged whereas yours is fine. Also, every DVD is different to every other one, so again his might be damaged whereas yours is fine.

To sort your issue you must use a process of elimination.

The first thing to eliminate is the DVD, so use the one that actually installed on his system and see if that works. (If you have lost it then you are an idiot. Find it asap!)

If it doesnt, then continue to use the disk you know has worked whilst changing the hardware.


(You will probably be able to install Vista on his hard drive from your PC by removing your own, but if it is a hardware issue it probably wont work when put back in his PC. So I wouldn't bother trying it.)

Instead you should try and find out WHAT piece of hardware is damaged in your friends PC. Firstly, swap the RAM and try and install, then the graphics card and try and install, then the processor and try and install.

GPU brand news we bought for 160 bucks tax, CAD, I have tried formating, checking hardware comp removing sound card, 256MB RAM, and Modem, removing DVD drives. and more bye

and yes it will work when i put it back in his PC, because in installation it didn't like a hardware piece oif his, because maybe my drivers on my PC are updated and he didn't do much UPDateing, so if i put vista HDD in his it will work, then we have to update drivers, because the ERROR IS ONLY IN THE VISTA INSTALLATION, it is NOT A BOOT ERROR.

If both you and your friend did clean installs you are both using the same drivers (ie the generic ones off of the Vista disk) so updating effects sod all.

I realise it is not a boot error as I am not a moron.

If you are so adamant it will work, why haven't you done it yet?

If the installation goes smoothly on your PC and when you transfer the hard drive back, if it all works. Great. If not, do the things I have said above.
