| Danteunknown, if possible, tell us about your current system specs, or at least the size of the hard drive, CPU speed and amount and type of RAM. We want you to succeed in your quest and will guide you the best we can.

| I agree. I really don't have a clear picture of what your want to do or what your system might allow.

| Right-click “My Computer”, choose “Properties” and Win XP will display the CPU and amount of ram. The type of ram is not really that important. The reason I wanted to know that is because by knowing the type of ram, I would know more or less if you have a modern or an older system. I can tell you right now that your hard drive is too small for Vista. You might be able to install Vista if you wipe the drive clean, meaning loosing everything you have, but you are not going to be able to run programs. I can’t tell you to buy a larger hard drive, because I don’t know if the rest of your system has what it takes to run Vista. Another option would be to upgrade your PC, however, nowadays is cheaper to purchase a new PC than upgrading or building one when taking in consideration the software you can get with a new system. And if you have an older system, you might not find a motherboard that will fix the case anyway. One more thing, and thank you for being so patient and persistent, is your PC a brand name system; e.g. Dell, Compaq, HP, etc? If it’s a brand name, can you tell us the model? That should be printed on small tag, usually behind the PC. That information can be of great help to us. And again, I want to emphasize, feel free to come back here and ask us about any concerns you may have. I’m sure any great member from this forum will provide you with all the information you may need. One more thing; go here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...r/default.mspx and downlaod the upgrade advisor. It should tell you if your PC can run Vista. Keep in mind that the test might not run at all, and if it doesn't, it most likely means that your PC does not have what it takes to run Vista. The test is free, so give it a try. Good luck

| Danteunknown, I’m puzzle. You said that when you clicked your hard drive, it reported a capacity of 24.4 GB and 3.03 GB of free space; the would put your had drive at a size of 30 GB, which it’s possible. But according to specs, a Dell Inspiron 6000 is a modern PC with a standard 60 GB hard drive. There’s the possibility that you have a 60 GB hard drive divided into partitions. That would be strange though, as it’s not normal for a manufacture to partition a hard drive in half…it just wouldn’t make sense. Also, you mentioned that a computer hardware guru told you that you cannot download Vista with 1 GB of free space, and he recommended for you to call Dell to ask them how to get around that. Perhaps there is some miscommunication in our part, but what exactly can Dell do? When you open “My Computer” how many hard drives do you see? If you see more than one, right-click each one and note the capacity. Let me know what you see. In the mean time, I suggest you read a thread, which I started concerning installation of Vista. It's named "Vista for You and Me". I cannot send you a link because I'm working behind a server, but you shouldn't have any problems finding it.

| Danteunknown, your RAM is good. It's your hard drive that I'm kind of confuse about. When you open "My Computer", how many drives does it show?
