I wouldn't run vista on 512mb personally, yes it would run but you would have a lot of trouble running apps and the OS itself my Computer has 1gb of DDR2 Ram and from just running with no anti virus and no programs or services it uses around 398Mb and with the basics like anti virus and Windows Sidebar im way up it the high 400 hundreds at some times, so you gotta ask yourself what your going to be doing on vista. also check out your GPU because it may not run aero and see if your using power hungry apps, running vista and somthing like photoshop at the same time with 512mb of ram is not advised.

The problem with Danteunknown is not that he can't run Vista, the issue is that he can't get it to install. Vista will run with 512MB, that's what I have in my laptop, but the installation problem has to do with issues with his hard drive. But without knowing how his hard disk is partition or how much free space there is in each partition, it's difficult to to know exactly how to proceed.

Unhappy seems strange but yes

If I remember correctly you should have a 60G HD but it only shows 30G.
use options and move to SHOW all hidden files/folders... then reset and see if
there is NOT Simply a Hidden Partition, I also have seen many OEM systems that (for some reason) the HD was partitioned into and never made active.
so you might have simply the need to find and activate them.
PQ 8.05 works in XP and rather well..it also has a TRIAL period (FREE) to test.
I recommend it

According to post 1, his PC shows 3 GB of free space, not 30GB. If it's 30GB, then it would be sufficient for the installation of Vista, especially for an upgrade from XP.

But according to specs, a Dell Inspiron 6000 is a modern PC with a standard 60 GB hard drive.
In the 20 plus years I have worked on Computers, I have seen many systems with partitions hidden/shown/not activated and a few no formatted, filled with pure crap.. Yes, NEW OEM systems.[HP, Dell, System X, Compac, etc]..that is why I recommend Belarc Advisor.. it will show him many things. Its FREE and it works in Vista also..and PQ8.05 - makes it much (IMHO)easier to adjust fix check redo partitions. not perfect by good enough be the more than average beginner.

We can debate all day long, but without a response from Danteunknown it's almost impossible to provide assistance. I already mention of the low probabilities his HD is 30GB and also of the low chance that Dell would partition an HD 50/50. Possible, but I doubt it.

It's possible that the partitions are shown, not hidden. All it's require is to go to My Computer and check to see how many HDs are shown and the size of each. Again, without Danteunknown intervention we'll never know.

I could have downloaded to Disk 3 or something like that, it had 3.42 GB of space but it says that i have used about 1, which i havent. How do i delete the things on that unknown driver?
