Real Untimate Now on Desktop

Hi Friends:

We are off to Paris tomorrow and just got back from Xmas in Carlsbad with kids and grandkids. I found time to install Real Vista Ultimate on my desktop. All went perfectly. Here are some details.

Installation time from entering key to beginning of performance check: 16 minutes

Installation time from entering key to first appearance of desktop: 20 minutes

Disk defragmentation after copying all files to desktop and setting up desktop shown by Perfect Disk: 1.2%

Registry Errors as above shown by Registry Mechanic: 144

Vista Performance score: 4.6 (i.e., 5.5, 5.4, 4.6, 4.8, 5.4) (See snip)

Programs installed to date: See snip

Average of 3 performance scores from the Passmark Performance Test: 696 (On the same test, RTM Vista Ultimate scored 686, while XP Pro beat both scoring 778.)

You must be having a blast. Good for you, enjoy yourself.

Concerning Real Ultimate installation, was this a clean install?

Thanks felix. Yes, blasts coming from all directions. Yes, my plan always was to install Real Vista cleanly. But, actually, I was told that update is disabled in the current Real Vista. But, I was doing some maintenance on my laptop and was able to re-install from within--i.e., update Real Vista to Real Vista.

Thanks Snuffy. We will have a great time. We have been 3 or 4 times before. And, yes, the install went perfectly and, as said, very quickly.

I'm curious about the errors shown by registry mechanic. I wonder if they are really errors. Can there be a compatibility issue with Registry Mechanic and Vista? It doesn't seem right that a new installation can have so many errors, especially a new operating system.

I totally agree with your thinking. That's why I have been so hesitant to use any kind of registry fixer--even those that are stated to be consistent with whatever OS I am running. Did you see my thread on performance testing and maintenance in the tips section? What you mention is the reason that I reinstalled Vista from within after using Registry Mechanic--to make sure, as best I could, that Registry Mechanic had not been over zealous in correcting "errors."

It will get much better. Once new Vista drivers begin to roll in, your PC is going to rock.

More reliable than 10??? I can't wait!!! I do wonder if the non-beta NVIDIA driver will make a difference in my performance score. But, I am not sure what other drivers would make a difference. Any thoughts? When I install Vista, I don't have to install any "essential" drivers other than for NVIDIA and Creative/Sound Blaster/Audigy. The video works, at least to some extent, without the NVIDIA driver (thank goodness), but I have no sound without the Audigy driver.
