Starting Point After Everything I Want Installed is Installed:

Snips Below:

1. Shows Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) next to Windows Mobility (WMC) Center and under Sync Center. Some don't realize that WMDC and WMC are not the same thing.

2. Shows Device Manager. One item is not installed. I don't remember if I ever got it installed under RTM or not.

3. Starting Reliability Score. The only problem is that today I had a problem with the last thing I was going to install for a while--my Web Cam. So, I may get dinged really bad tomorrow on reliability.

4. Installed Programs. Everything appears to be working properly except I am having trouble with using my headset with Skype. The Web Cam works fine. I did not set Skype up on RTM.

The last two snips are on the next post.

Got it; Skype working with webcam and all. I found a Vista beta for SigmaTel audio on the Dell website. Everything now working apparently properly.

Hey, I didn't get dinged too badly. See below. Off I go to a 10.

Yep, my favorite--a 1.0. Everything is good except for my integrated graphics capabilities--which determine my two low scores. See below.

Hi Friends:

I have a tiny bit of performance data to share about real Vista Ultimate versus a pretty decent beta--5840 Ultimate. Below is a comparison, made using my laptop, for the two OS's running under very comparable circumstances--i.e., all programs installed, although not exactly the same programs installed, and both installations on the same drive. In each case, I had set Vista for "Best Appearance."

In the case of 5840, I first did a base line (the first number column). Then, I did basic maintenance including registry repair, deframenting, and disk clean up (the second number column). Finally, I reinstalled 5840 from within (the third number column). For real Vista, I performed my test after a clean install and all programs were installed (the fourth number column).

Starting about mid January I will be doing extensive tests comparing XP Pro and real Vista Ultimate. These results should be very interesting since XP Pro beat up Vista Ultimate in my earlier similar tests. But, from what is given below, it looks like real Vista Ultimate may be faster than the beta Ultimates.

Vista 5840 Ultimate--Best Appearance........263.6.........267.7..........268 .0
Real Vista Ultimate--Best Appearance........................................ ........................283.5

Znod, when you get a chance maybe you can try running your performance test using tip #45 at this thread http://www.vistababble.com/forums/vi...ew-tips-5.html

I ran Disk Cleanup (which probably did nothing performance-wise) and defragged all my files, including my system files and swapfile, with Pecfect Desk. I increased my best three of four average for Real Vista from 283.5 to 291. I did not correct my registry for the 200 some odd errors shown by Registry Mechanic.

Znod, just in case you missed my previous post, I was thinking that maybe tip #45 at of http://www.vistababble.com/forums/vi...ew-tips-5.html should impact your average positively.
