I cant wait to try it, but must also say that if my experiences with a certain Beta version are bad I really am less likely to actually use the official release later on.

I have never known anyone but a complete techy geek to run beta os's. The average person just does not get that much out of it. And anything they might get out of it is overwhelmed by their frustration.

Too true. As you say, it just ain't worth the trouble unless you are REALLY interested in the new OS. Or being paid to test it

You would like to think that using a beta means helping the community... and may also get us a discount on release? Maybe??

I somehow doubt we'll get a discount when Windows Vista is officially released, but hey, you never know. Here's to hoping!

I have a friend who's a programmer and had the "longhorn" version which was purely for testing purposes. In other words nothing worked, it took 10-15 minutes every folder you would browse to in windows explorer. So I ended up browsing around the interface two days while I had it at my house and my frustration hasn't deterred me from getting the beta 2 or any future builds. If the average consumer installs it on their primary PC and then blames MS with a bad impression I would say they are pretty low on the intelligence totem pole.
