The ultimate upgrade confusion

Hello All,

I love this site. I was searching through it and found it most helpful. I am new here so please go easy on me. I am located in Chicago, IL. I need help. I only have a business vista CD that i installed a few months ago. I then purchased the upgrade for it to vista ultimate. Like a fool, in order to install vista sp1, i uninstalled vista ultimate and then reinstalled vista with the business cd, I tried typing in the product key from the ultimate but it said i cant do that. i do have a legal authenticated product key for vista ultimate. how do i upgrade to ultimate from business with the business cd i have with the product key i previously bought? i do not want to have to purchase another upgrade to vista ultimate.

all help is greatly appreciated

thanks a ton,

Mark

Two things. First, you should be able to install business without inputing any product key. Then, you would upgrade to Ultimate using its product key. Second, assuming for some reason you have to install business with a product key, then use its original product key and subsequently upgrade to Ultimate as you did originally.

The disc you have has all 32 bit versions of Vista are on that disc and why did you uninstall to do the sp1 update I have the same set up the Ultimate upgrade from business and mine went through no problem and if you reinstalled business just do the vista anytime upgrade the same way you did it the first time and put your ultimate key in and see if that works. Good luck Go to the control panel and click on Windows anytime and follow the instructions.

Welcome!

The problem arises from the fact that your ultimate key is only valid when upgrading a previous install of windows. So when you put it in the setup checks your system and finds that it's not there.

If you don't want to install business edition, install ultimate by not including any CD key and then once it is installed use your upgrade key to 'upgrade' to ultimate and then activate it as usual.
