Hi All:

I just finished my upgrade from 5728 to 5840 on a spare 7200 RPM drive. All went very smoothly. So far 5840 seems fine, but it is way to early to tell. My upgrade procedure was simply:

(1) Perform a complete PC backup (i.e., create a disk image of drive 1) of my current 5728 installation on an external drive;
(2) Restore the 5728 image to my spare drive; and
(3) Upgrade 5728 to 5840.

Everything appears to be working properly--even MMJB--which Vista says is incompatible. I had to do a fix in order to get my Pharos 525 to sync with Outlook and to connect with my computer in general. My 5840 system now is complete in the sense that I can do everything I want or need to do.

The above steps may be the foundation of the process I will be using in attempting to use 5840 for consecutive 30-day periods. The complete process, from this point, will be (but, note this possible alternative--http://forums.windowsvistageeks.org/...showtopic=479):

(1) Update my 5728 drive to the extent desired to mirror my 5840 drive;
(2) Update my disk image for this drive;
(3) Restore the image to my 5840 drive; and
(4) Upgrade 5728 on the 5840 drive to 5840.

During my initial installation I was unable to prevent the installation of the Window's Update "Dummy" updates. Below are two snips that tell you everything I know about the dummies at this point.

I am not sure if the Dummy updates are a problem or not. I did not think that they could be deleted, but I did so. Then, I said what the heck, and reinstalled them.

I no longer think that the updates are a problem. I discovered that they can be deleted. So, what the heck, I reinstalled them and am ignoring them. I say don't worry about them.
