Question will my hardware support vista?

im upgrading my hardware for my computer to support vista. here is my new configuration -

1. Mobo - ASUS P5LD2-VM R2.0 - 945g express chipset
2. Processor - Intel Pentium D950 - 3.4 GHz
3. RAM - 2 GB Dual Channel DDR-II
4. Video Card - nVIDIA GeForce 7100 GS - 256mb - im not a gamer!!!!
5. Sound Card (Onboard) - RealTek HD Audio ALC882
6. LAN (Onboard) - Intel GLAN
7. Speakers - Creative SBS 370 (2.1)

Now, ive found vista drivers for my video card and sound card, but im still worried whether these specs are enough to run vista on it or not....

on the asus site this board is one of the vista certified models, but when i search for the drivers for this model of my chipset, i cant find it on the asus site.
Can sum1 please confirm whether this mobo will work with vista or not and where can i find drivers for my chipset and also whether the rest of the configuration is enough for vista premium or not.....

THANX!!!!

Hi sHAve31, and welcome. Your machine will do fine with Vista. And, actually, I think it should do fine with Aero. The 945 is supposed to support Vista. I would check this issue out carefully on the Intel site, and look for a Vista related driver for the 945. Also, try the Vista Upgrade Advisor on your machine: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...deadvisor.mspx. Fining the RealTek driver will be important. Some have had no sound for a while until they found it. I think crabby knows where it is. He undoubtedly will chime in later.

Question Run the Vista Advisor

Yes, for sure.. It really does help, but it is a long ways from being accurate.
I just finished my New System.

System Configuration :
AMD 64 CPU AM2 : AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+ (Dual Core) AM2 1024K Cache
AMD 64 CPU Fans : Spire Kestrel-King II AMD 64 fan
AMD 64 AM2 Motherboards : ASRock ALiveSATA2 K8T890, PCI-EX, DDR2 ,Sound, LAN
DDR2 memory : 2GB (2x1GB) PC4200 DDR2 533 Dual Channel
PCI-Express Video cards : GeForce 7300GS 256Mb PCI EXpress 16X dual head, tv out
Sound Cards : AC 97 32 BIT Full Duplex sound card (onboard)
Network Cards : 10/100 Network card adapter (onboard)
Cases : APEVIA (Aspire) X-Plorer Silver, Side Window, front USB,iEEE,Temp control
Power Supply : Okia 600W ATX Power Supply
and I had a terrible time getting installed/updated ... with the Vista driver auto installed my GeForce 7300GS it was not compatible ... after lots of time. I used my old PCI GeForce 5500 and downloaded the NVidia driver 100.64 for the 7300GS. Then placed it on my HD along with my SCSI drivers. WOW that was fun. Now I'm back - I think to stay.

Shave31, I don't think you'll have any issues running Vista. Your Intel 945g chipset should work fine as well; it would really surprise me if it didn't work. Download all Vista drivers that you can find for your PC and save them on a disk or on a separate partition. Use them only if Vista can't find one of the drivers. If you are running Win XP and have a large enough HD, I suggest you run Vista as dualboot with XP. You'll get 30-days to activate Vista, if something doesn't go as plan within those 30-days, you can proceed to a new Vista installation without worrying about your license.

I agree, you system is more than enough to handle ALL of Vista's features! You motherboard should work out of the box on it's drivers - which will be why you cant find any for it. Hope the upgrade goes well

Microsoft has officially stated it is OK to test any version of Vista for
1. NO KEY install = 30 days
2. -rearm #1 = 30 days = total 60 days
3. -rearm #2 = 30 days = total 90 days
4. -rearm #3 = 30 days = total 120 days

Also that the UPgrade DVD's were made so as to allow a CLEAN install and That makes the NEW Cost cheaper, and the "KEY" for Ultimate Upgrade
will also allow you to purchase 2 copies of Home Premium for $50.00 ea.
?? Why buy Full Retail when Upgrade will do the exact same,
and you are allowed to order the 64-bit version if you own a 32-bit version or Visa Versa.
Only the "KEY" is required... WOW Microsoft is getting EASY.. actually this is
there way of Combating "PIRATES" WOW YEA

That looks a tad bit small the 250W PS.
