Windows need permission

I don't know if this has been posted, but juts in case. When u try to make changes or go to certain areas of vista u'll get a pop-up telling u windows need permission to continue. To get around that, you can and should run your computer as the administrator. U need to enable administrator acct. Right click "Computer", select "Manage", on left pane select "Local users and groups", on middle pane select "users", right click "Administrator" select "properties" and uncheck "Account is disabled". Now u'll have the power to switch users. Better yet, disabled all other users if u r the only one using the PC.

Hmm... but the whole point of UAC is that you aren't an administrator unless you need to be. This stops viruses etc from changing files on the PC and so makes Windows more secure. I would only enable administration if you find it REALLY necessary and you are great with viruses. Otherwise, clicking continue every now and then isn't a big bother.

Good tip... but ONLY use if your are savvy

Use it if u r the sole owner of ur pc and nobody use it. If someone has access to ur pc, then make sure to use a good password...one that can't be easily hack.

Yes but the point in UAC is that ,for instance, activeX controlers on websites etc require authorisation. If you turn on admin then it will automatically install these, many of which are viruses.

Even if you are the sole owner you shouldn't be an admin unless you need to be for a certain task, it just makes sense

Hi Both of You:

I have admin. off. But, I also have UAC off because I think it interferes too much with my system (in various ways, but I am going to try it again). With UAC off, do you guys know what happens when using Firefox when something wants to intall an active X control? I have searched Firefox for something to indicate that I would get a warning ala IE, but I can't find anything that would help. I can't remember if Firefox warns me or not.

Znod, I downloaded, installed and ran Firefox, downloaded and ran some plugins, but did not receive a warning from Vista. There has to be something out there that requires some intervention from Vista when installing it through Firefox. Anyway, I did find a plugin call Firefox Vista. It makes Firefox look like Vista.
