XP To 6000 Upgrade Failed

For some reason my vista 6000 wont upgrade my xp install...

Vista gets to copying files 100% then a pop up says that the install failed and thats it... no more info as to why it failed..

But i can do a clean install by booting from the dvd with no problems..

Anyone got a clue as to whats up?

Cheers

Only idea is an incompatible or read only file that it can't update or remove?

What the problem actually is i couldn't say

At least one available version of RTM does not support the upgrade option. I don't have that one so I can't say whether it appears to support it, and then doesn't, or not.

On the other hand, your file may be corrupt, or you may have burned your disk too fast. 4X or less is recommended for burning.

I don't know about read-only files, but, in all of my upgrades, Vista has ignored at least incompatible programs--i.e., no attempt has been made to install any judged by Vista to be incompatible.

Arrow Upgrade from Vista

The only way I could get upgrade to work was from Vista to Vista RTM..

Right, but I suppose the corrupt part could have to do with the upgrade option.

That's interesting Snuffy. I upgraded all the way with two exceptions. For some reason, the upgrade process failed when going from XP Pro to 5384 (or whatever the number was). Then, I finally decided to do a clean install when going from 5840 to RTM even though my RTM supports upgrading.

Some will some will not ????

Strange to me, that some versions will upgrade from XP to Vista and some will not.. (2n HD)I upgraded to v5840 then to RTM... (1st HD) XP will not upgrade to Vista RTM disk....It might be due to the SCSI Drivers I use (which UpGrade Advisor did not tell me about!!) which I manually added to v5840..

That is the only thing I can think of..
Yes, they are "UNSIGNED" by Maxtor
