Xp to Vista

Hi to all,
I am receiving a new Vista computer for Christmas. I want to transfer all that I can from my Xp machine.
I have Belkins Easy Transfer For Vista. The cable and the software.
The instructions that came with the software contradict each other.
I know some of you guys have done this transfer.
Can anybody give me a rundown on the procedure? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ned

Hi Ned:

I have never used any sort of tranfer in moving from one machine to another. Personally, the only things I would ever attempt to transfer are my data files. I use the old fashion way( )--an external drive or a hardwired network.

Add the old HD to the new system and use copy/paste.. most data will be ok, but 95% of all the programs, drivers will not work.
